60 years old...What, How?

Hi Everyone,
Happy birthday to meš š September was a big month for me, I turned 60 last week. It is a monumental number so some of my friends and family are asking, āHow do you feel about being 60?āĀ
I decided I would share with all of you what I am thinking about being 6 decades old. First and foremost, I feel immense gratitude. And that is not a passing sentiment, it is a deeply held conviction I have. To turn 60 and count good health, a loving husband and kids, wonderful extended family, beautiful souls as friends, and lets not forget my 4 legged loves, Ellie, the sweetest cat ever and Bandit, my neurotic lovable dog, as part of my life really is incredible. I am very well aware that reaching this age is not to be taken for granted.Ā
I will now say or rather shout SIXTY!!!ā¦.how is that possible!?
If I really look at my life thus far and start to catalogue all of the milestones and events that I have experienced, it of course makes logical sense. But, how is it then, that I feel that sixty just doesnāt fit into who I perceive myself to be by age? Iāve been giving this a good amount of thought and I have come to realize that it seems so foreign because I am just in the last few years doing what I believe I was always meant to do. So, when I look at it that way, of course I feel younger than I am.Ā
Let me explain, I have done different jobs and lived different places over the years but, I always seemed to be looking for the "thing" that would fulfill me as an individual. The one role that I undoubtedly believe I was meant to do and filled me with the most joy was to be a mom to my kids, and I think, with my husband as my partner in crime and parenting, I was pretty good at it, because my kids are incredibly fabulous. (This statement does not diminish their own journey, accomplishments and achievements.) Did I make mistakes? Just ask them and Iām sure youāll get more than a few stories illustrating that yes, I did. But, I believe, we were meant to do this life together, I chose them and they chose me, just like they also chose my husband to be their dad. This is truly what I believe.
I also believe, due to all of the tribulations and triumphs in my life and all of the people who I have had in my life and crossed paths with have led me, at 60, to be doing what I am meant to do, helping others through Reiki, intuitive guidance and grief work. Caregiving is a role I am most comfortable with in both in my personal life and in my professional life. I found Reiki later in life, which then opened up a whole new consciousness for me. How lucky am I that I discovered this part of me that was always there while I am still young enough, (yes I said young:)) to share it with others.Ā
So, no 60 is not old, I do not feel like I have entered the final ā of my journey here, to the contrary, I am just getting started.
Much love and light,
Jan
