Some More Feng Shui (hint:decluttering)

Hi All, Happy end of August.

If you follow my social media you may have noted,(link here), I have been doing a lot of feng shui tips and may wonder why an Intuitive Reiki Practitioner is doing that. Well, first of all, I love it, and secondly, in the past I have taken quite an extensive study course in feng shui, (you should see how thick the book is) and wanted to share some of what I learned.

As you know from previous blogs or if you read my website, I believe that the energy we surround ourselves with and carry with us has a profound effect on us. Just like Reiki is about supporting the flow of energy through the body, feng shui is the practice of creating physical spaces in our homes and work, which support the balance and movement of qi (pronounced- chi), or universal energy that moves through all things living and non-living. Feng shui creates a balance with nature. Maintaining yin and yang to balance everything, such as rest (yin), and action(yang) or dark(yin) and light (yang) is also part of feng shui.

I love sharing with you some of the quick actions you can easily do to follow some feng shui principles. But, I will share what I believe is the most important thing you can do for your home. Even if, for example, you aren’t crazy about your rental and cannot afford to move, you can still take an inexpensive action to bring more joy and flow to your living space.

Most important thing first, and I have mentioned this in a previous blog post, DECLUTTER!!! When your space is cluttered or bursting at the seams, there is no room for qi to flow. Your space becomes stagnant and stuck which leads to higher stress and anxiety levels, lack of creativity, poor health, and depression. Clearing clutter often promotes clearer, more focused thinking, more energetic spaces which allows for new possibilities. And here is one thing that I was unaware of, decluttering your kitchen can often lead to healthier eating habits, as the space will inspire self-care through preparing nurturing foods, (I mean, who gets excited about cooking when the counters are covered? No one.)

So, even if you inherited something or were given a gift that you just don’t want or need, do not feel guilty about not wanting to keep it. Ask family or friends if they would like it and if not donate it, but only if it is in good shape. You wouldn’t want something that is broken or damaged so do not think anyone else would either, just recycle or put it in the trash. Also, if you are keeping something, “just in case”, really think about how likely it will be that you will need the item and be honest. If you are holding onto a broken item thinking you will fix it, either fix it immediately or recycle/throw it away.

For some people, decluttering is not an easy thing to do. It can be emotional and exhausting, so take it one bit at a time, work on a closet, not a whole room. Work on counters in the kitchen or a cabinet, not both in one day, unless you are up to the challenge. Also, ask for help, some people love to organize, I bet you know someone who would be happy to help.

This blog is similar to one I posted before, but I felt like I wanted to repeat and go a little deeper. Remember, you can find more feng shui tips and more to come on my Instagram highlights HERE.

Sending love, light and free moving qi,

Jan
